Room
transcripts are records of what was said in a room. If Room Transcripts
are enabled, then messages said in the room are also recorded
to the ChatSpace database (see Appendix 2 for more details). Transcript
records can then be displayed so that moderators or even normal
members can view what was said.
The
span of time for viewing the transcripts can be specified as a
start date/time and an end date/time. Members are also given the
choice of whether or not they will see the room "Entry"
and "Exit" events.
To
turn on Room Transcripts, the room must be registered, and you
must be an owner of the room. Bring up the Room Options dialog
by double-clicking on any message in the room, or click the Room
Options button on the toolbar. Then, on the Registration tab click
the “Transcripts” section. Check the box labeled "Record
Transcripts" to begin recording.
Administrators
and room moderators (of the room in question) always have access
to transcripts. Ordinary members of a room can access the transcripts
only if the "Allow all members to view Transcripts"
setting is in effect. This can be set from Room Options or from
the ChatSpace Configuration Tool.
To
view the options, click the Rooms tab above the chat window and
locate your room in the list which appears. If there is a "text"
icon just to the left of the members count, then you may click
it to access that room's transcripts. Rooms without the “text”
icon either do not have transcripts recording or you do not have
access to them.
A
setting in the Rooms Tab of the ChatSpace Configuration Tool determines
how long (in days) transcripts are retained for. Every 12 hours,
the transcript table in the ChatSpace database (see Appendix 2)
is purged of any records that are older than the number of days
specified.
