A
Room Moderator is an owner or manager of a particular room. Normally,
Moderators appear in the room's Member List in blue and, in the
ChatSpace 2.0 version, they will appear with a
in front of their nickname. A Room Moderator
is responsible for ensuring that the rules (or spirit) of the
room are observed. If a member, after being warned, continues
to behave in an unacceptable manner, a Room Moderator can ban
this person from the room.
Note: A Room Moderator can only kill other members from a room, but not prevent
other members from chatting on the server. Only Operators and
Administrators can do this.
There
are four ways for a normal member to become a Room Moderator:
2)
Creating a Room
Room
Moderator status will automatically be granted if you create a room.
2)
Being a Moderator or Owner of a Registered Room
Room
Moderator status will automatically be granted if you are listed
in the Moderator List of a registered room and given a password.
3)
Another Room Moderator Can Temporarily Grant Moderator Status
A
Room Moderator can provide another person temporary Moderator
status by clicking on the person's name and selecting the Give
Moderator Status option or by using the Assign/Remove Moderator
Status button. When the temporary Moderator leaves the room, Moderator
status is relinquished.
1)
Starting a New Dynamic (on the fly) Room
If
you create a new room, you are the Room Moderator. This is a one-time
opportunity. If you leave the room, and return while others are
still chatting, you will not be granted Room Moderator status
again, unless the room is empty and deleted. At which time you
must re-create the room.
Room
Options (or modes) can be set by a Room Moderator or an Administrator
in the Room Controls dialog.
To
access Room options, right click the Member’s List or click the
Room Options button on the top toolbar. This will display the
Controls dialog.
The
following section describes the Room Options:
|
Topic
|
Information entered will
be shown on the top line of the Java Chat Client following
the name of the room (just under the tabs). Anyone joining
the room will see this topic. People viewing the list
of rooms on the Rooms tab will also see this description.
|
|
Secret
|
If the room is set secret,
it will not be displayed in the list of Rooms unless the
person viewing the list is an Administrator or a member
who has been given access.
|
|
Strict Moderation
|
Only Room Moderators
and people who have been given Strict Moderation Voice
by a Room Moderator can speak in a moderated room.
|
|
Topic changeable only by room Moderator
|
With this option set,
only another Room Moderator can change the room's topic.
Without being set, anyone who is in the room can change
the topic.
|
|
Block external msgs
|
With this option set,
only people who are in the room can speak in it. Without
it, anyone on the entire server can talk to the room.
|
|
Invite-Only
|
When a person attempts
to join an Invite-Only room, the Moderator will be informed
and can grant access.
|
Members Only
|
Only people listed in the members list (in the configuration) may enter the room.
|
|
Password to enter
|
Only persons given a
password to a room will be allowed access.
|
|
Maximum occupancy
|
Enter the number of maximum
members to be allowed in a room at one time into this
field. When the number of members has reached maximum
occupancy, the room cannot be entered until someone leaves
or the number in the Max Occupancy field is increased.
|
Note: Administrators "override" all room settings
such as;
View
secret rooms.
Enter
invite-only rooms.
Administrators
can grant themselves Room Moderator status in any room. This
level of authority is necessary for Administrators to maintain
control over the chatting environments.
Administrators
cannot be banned or removed from the server/room.
Room
Moderators have additional controls in their assigned rooms. These
controls allow Moderators to manage the room content and remove
or mute disruptive members.
