While
dynamic rooms are a convenient and easy way for discussion to
take place, they may not always meet your needs.
Registered
rooms provide tighter control and "permanency" on the
server. The room will remain in place even when you are not signed
on. Registered rooms can be used to:
Protect critical rooms from being "taken over." You
can assign certain Moderators to be present in a particular room(s).
Suggest
topics of discussion. Only registered rooms can be empty, but
still available in the Room’s List.
Allows
Room Moderators to do the following;
Perform custom functions such as delivering a Room Welcome Message
when a member enters the room.
Change topics of a room.
Remove members from the room.
Registering
a Room
Only
a Room Moderator can register a room. To register, bring up the
Room Options screen by clicking on the Room Options button on
the top toolbar. If the room is not currently owned by another
member, the message "This room is not registered. Would you
like to register it?" will be displayed. Click on the Register
button, and you will automatically be established as the room's
Founder and first Owner.
Room
Welcome Message
A
welcome message is a short greeting that can be sent to the screen
when new members join your room. The message can be used to explain
the rules of the room, provide a schedule of upcoming events,
or provide any information you wish to share.
Moderator
Passwords
Moderator
and Owner passwords should be established for a room for better
security and community management. Click on the Moderator Passwords
tab, and enter a password for both the moderator and the owner
into the fields.
Moderator
Entries
To
automatically grant a person Room Moderator status highlight their
name, and perform any of the following methods;
- Right click on the Member’s List, choosing “Give
Room Moderator Status” from the drop down menu.
- Click on the Give/Take Moderator Status button
on the top toolbar.
- Click the Room Options button and choose the tab,
“Add Member” at the bottom of the control panel. Then enter
their nickname and check the moderator checkbox. This is the only method which makes the authority permanent.
If you do not do this, then the next time the member returns to the room, he will not have moderator authority
Removing
a Moderator
To
remove a member from the room's Moderator list, click on the Room
Options button on the top toolbar or right click on the Member
List and choose Room Options from the drop down menu. On the Room
Registration tab, find the Nickname of the target member in the
Moderator List, click on it, and hit the Delete button. If you’ve also set room moderator passwords, it is a good idea to then
change the password for all moderators so that the person removed does not have moderator access.
If
the person is currently in the room, highlight the member's nickname
in the Member List and right click, then select “Take Moderator
Status from Member” from the drop down menu.
Note: You may also use the Give/Take Moderator Status button on the top toolbar
to perform this function.
If
You Lose Control of Your Room
If
someone bans you from your room or sets another mode (such as
invite only) making it impossible for you to access the room,
issue the RESET command: /RESET #room-name. A prompt for the owner’s
password will be displayed. If provided correctly, RESET will
clear all room options and bans and will remove all members from
the room.
